The Egyptian Minister of Transport has signed contracts with two of the country’s public companies for the manufacture and procurement of 100 locally produced electric buses. The vehicles will be deployed on BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) lines being developed in the country, and intended to serve the outlying areas of the capital.
The contract is part of the vision to produce 100% of the electric buses for public transport locally. Phase 1 of the BRT network has already been completed and the planned stations are being finalized.
Egypt has been developing a local manufacturing program for electric personal and public transport vehicles for several years. In addition to the road sector, other projects are also underway with the National Railway Authority and some multinational rail companies to produce rail cars and wagons locally.
